BELTRAIDE launches Plan of Action

The launch of Action Plan for the coming year has been announced by the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE). The plan seeks to go on unlocking Belize’s potential for more investments, for business opportunities as well as for job creation.

To remind, last annual plan was launched by BELTRAIDE on March 1, 2007.

In accordance with BELTRAIDE’s Executive Chairperson, Lourdes Smith, to achieve unlocking potential for investment promotion, business opportunities and job creation, three strategic areas have been pointed out. These are as follows:
– Investment Promotion,
– Entrepreneurial Development,
– Marketing.

Mr. Smith said that BELTRAIDE has had an active and successful year.

To promote investment, BELTRAIDE is compiling a National Export Strategy. It contains details on 5 priority investment sectors in Belize.

A Belize Marketing Study that has been carried out identifies the potential of markets for niche-non-traditional products. It will be important for Belizean producers who seek for trade opportunities in Central America, the US, CARICOM and EU.

To stimulate growth in entrepreneurial development for small and medium-sized businesses, BELTRAIDE is working on a National SME Policy on the development of micro, small and medium sized enterprises.

It is worth indicating 2 additional BELTRAIDE goals for 2008. They are as follows:
– the development of a National Investment Policy,
– the establishment of an Entrepreneurial Development and Trade Center in Belmopan.
