Channel 5 sold

On June 17, 2008, British billionaire Michael Ashcroft took control of Channel 5 TV through Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL).

Former Belize Times editor and Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (before her party, the PUP, lost the elections) Amalia Mai will replace Stewart Krohn as the Chief Executive Officer and news director of Channel 5.

Krohn, who has been the CEO of Great Belize Productions, Channel 5’s parent company, said that “the biggest mistake BTL could ever make is to try to influence the news output of this station, because a station is only as strong as its credibility in the public”.

The deal was concluded in the beginning of June. Krohn received the money for his shares on June 13.
