Belize Prime Minister goes to New York Conference on the Caribbean

On June 18, 2008, Prime Minister, the Hon. Dean O. Barrow, left Belize. He went to New York in order to participate in the Conference on the Caribbean along with other CARICOM leaders.

The New York conference held on June 19 – June 20 is focused on education and investment, and it is also aimed to facilitate engagement with the Caribbean Diaspora.

At the 28th meeting of CARICOM Heads carried out in July 2007, Heads of Government held talks with Congressman Charles Rangel, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee of the US House of Representatives. At the meeting, they engaged in an exchange of views on numerous issues of interest to the Caribbean Community. Congressman Rangel invited CARICOM Heads to New York. The visit was proposed to take place in June 2008 so that it coincided with Caribbean American Heritage Month.

The Prime Minister of Belize is accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Hon. Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, and the Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ms. Audrey Wallace. The delegation is scheduled to return to Belize on June 23.
