Monday, January 20th, 2014

Recent survey of economic freedoms of countries ranked Belize at 115 place among 178 countries. Also, Belize is 21st among 29 countries in South and Central America and Caribbean region. The score of economic freedom of the jurisdiction is 56.7, it succeeds Brazil and is categorized as mostly unfree, and this year’s rating is the lowest for Belize.

According to the survey, over the past twenty years Belize faced considerable decline in investment freedom, property rights, and freedom from corruption, and that cannot be overweighed with success in trade freedom and the area of government size that measures fiscal freedom and government spending. Also, the judicial system is acknowledged as inefficient and vulnerable to political influence.
