Belize received grant from Taiwan

Last week, the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency David C. K. Wu, presented a cheque for the amount of US$5 million to the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Belize, Dean Barrow. This is a Grant to Belize for the year 2013, given under the Bilateral Cooperation Program between Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) for years 2013 – 2016.

The grant will be used by the Government of Belize for covering local counterpart expenditures on key infrastructure projects. The proceeds of the Grant are for the general benefit and well being of the people of Belize.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow commented, accepting the Grant, that this co-operation program will assist Belize in meeting its development goals.

Belize 2029 Bonds to be exchanged to 2038 Bonds

Last week, the government of Belize made an announcement that holders of 86.2% of the country’s US Dollar Bonds due 2029 had tendered them, in response to 2029 Bonds and Belize’s exchange offer, to exchange these bonds for new Belize US Dollar Bonds due 2038.

The results of the tender process that ended on Friday, March 8, means that such an exchange of the entirety of the 2029 Bonds is expected to take place at a closing of the transaction, later this month.

Belize’s offer required tenders are to be submitted to Citibank, as the exchange agent for the transaction.

Beltraide and DFC presented information for Belize investors

During the Consulate of Belize Investment Conference held in Los Angeles, information about investing in Belize was presented by the Belize Trade and Investment Development Services (Beltraide) and the Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

In the presentation, Beltraide covered such topics as the procedures for investing in Belize and the advantages for Belize investors, as well as informed about major industries and key growth areas for investments and the retirement programs.

DFC informed the audience on the mortgage finance and commercial lending programs, the requirements for borrowing, payment mechanisms and purchasing DFC properties.

The investment conference had the purpose to give opportunity to both government entities to provide information to Belize expats about investing in Belize.

Investment conference for Belize expats to be held in Los Angeles

An Investment Conference will be held on August 25, 2012 by the Consulate of Belize in Los Angeles, having the purpose to provide Belizeans living outside the country with information on current opportunities in Belize, and tell them how to be involved – to become an investor and an economic stakeholder in Belize.

During the conference, presentations will be made by Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which will give information on Purchasing Homes under Foreclosure in Belize, Payment Mechanisms, DFC Mortgage Finance and Commercial Lending Programs; and Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (Beltraide), which will present on such subjects as Belize Incentive Programs of the Government of Belize, Beltraide Business and Investment Services, Priority Areas for Investment in Belize, and Showcasing Belizean Companies.
